Interview - Lachlan Rowston from The Mind Muscle Project

I don’t know about you but for me there’s only one good thing about Mondays - the new episode of The Mind Muscle Project. While you are getting outside and using your fitness on the weekends, Lachy Rowston is hard at work. Finding guests, researching, recording, editing, Lachy knows what it takes to get a podcast off the ground and grow it into Australia’s number one health and fitness podcast.
Every single week Lachy, and his co-host Raph, find the time to drop knowledge and make us laugh out loud… No matter how busy they are training or running their affiliate they share their passion for training, health, podcasts and lols.
If you haven’t listened, subscribe on iTunes, or read on to find out more about Lach.

We are big fans of the Mind Muscle Project, why did you start the Podcast in the first place?

Our original idea for episode 1 was to provide some additional content for members participating in a nutrition challenge we ran very early on, about 2 years ago. Raph and I loved the process of interviewing and asking questions as we had been fans for a long time of podcasts. It was months later we decided to go and get some mics and sit down 3 health practitioners we knew to be the official start of our podcast. One episode later we had on long time hero Jon North and host of the podcast 'Weightlifting Talk' who made us swear no matter what we would do one episode every week. We have been true to our promise to him ever since.

Who was your favourite guest, and why did you enjoy the episode so much?

There a at least 5 that come to mind but the one that has been truly moving is Matt Swift

Matt Swift took me by surprise despite knowing it was going to be full on.

Matt has such a unique ability to draw lessons by reflecting on his life experiences to create principles he lives his life by.

His life experiences are epic, there is some heart-wrenching stories in there.

What life lessons have you learned from having conversations with so many successful people?

The difference between success and no success is action.

This has many levels, allow me to explain.

Being a co host on Australia's number 1 health and fitness podcast I know how easy it is to talk for the sake of talking.

What I have learnt is that the most successful guests are the ones who are doing exactly what they say, not because they are special in any way or blessed with particular circumstance but instead because they are ruthless action takers that get the fuck off their arse and work. Every one from CF games athletes to entrepreneurs to nutrition coaches  they all realise the value of action.

If you could have anyone in the world on the podcast, who would it be?

It would have to be Joe Rogan.

In a close close second would be Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen from The Fighter and The Kid.

What are your favourite podcasts to listen to?

  1. The Fighter and The Kid
  2. the Joe Rogan Experience
  3. The Tim Ferris Show
  4. Radiolab
  5. StartUp Podcast

What can we expect from the MMP for the rest of 2016?

Episode 100 will be a big one for us so be ready for this epic shit.

As a new arm to the business we are launching a 1-day intensive in Bondi called 'Zero to launch' which is our opportunity to teach young business owners how to start up their own podcast, build an audience, share their story and hopefully not lose any audio files, haha.

Finally, what’s your favourite quote?

"Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do" - Bruce Lee

I often tell this to myself on a daily basis as I convince myself that gathering more information and reading more articles is a better idea than training or building the business. All about that action ;)
